The right kind of broken
Last week someone in Frogtown listed a Bose SoundLink with a tired battery. It still sounds great — it just can't hold a charge for more than an hour. To most people that's trash. To this community it's a perfectly good plug-in speaker waiting for the right kitchen counter.
That's the whole idea. We're not here to sell mint-condition gadgets. We're here to move the right kind of broken — the stuff that works fine if you stop expecting it to be brand new.
This week on the table
The registry is live with 8 donors offering devices across the Twin Cities. Nothing has been resurrected yet — but the table is set. Here's a snapshot:
- 8 donors have listed devices
- 0 devices are currently on the public table
- 7 resurrections so far (first claim changes this number)
If you've been browsing, now is a good time to make an offer. The first successful swap will flip that resurrected counter from 0 to 1.
One resurrection: a box of dead power bricks
This week's featured listing is honest about what it is: a box of dead wall warts and laptop bricks from Coon Rapids. The owner guesses there are about fifteen of them and says they'll trade for "a 6 ft HDMI cable or something — or just take the box."
That's the spirit. Someone with a soldering iron and a weekend could pull connectors, fuses, or cases out of that pile. The device is already dead; the only waste would be leaving it in a garage.
What we're watching
- The Reuse Minnesota member meeting is coming up November 12. If you're in the repair/reuse world, that's the room where this kind of community gets built offline.
- Founding member spots are still open. The first 100 people who join help set the tone for everyone who follows.
How to read this dispatch
Each issue of eZine picks one real listing, one local signal, and one number worth watching. No ads, no pitches — just what's actually happening on the table this week.
If you know someone who fixes things, hoards cables, or refuses to throw away a "dead" laptop, forward this along.
